So you're dreaming of capturing timeless moments with your little ones, well you’re in luck! Guelph is surrounded by some truly beautiful parks that are perfect backdrops for your summer or fall family photos. If you're picturing lots of giggles, fun bubbles and your toddler running free, these local spots offer the perfect mix of nature, quiet, and charm.
Here are my favourite parks and locations in and around Guelph that I often recommend (and love shooting at!):
🌿 The Arboretum at the University of Guelph
If you’re looking for a peaceful, natural setting, The Arboretum is a dream come true. With wide open fields, winding trails, and quiet wooded areas, it’s ideal for family portrait sessions.
Why I love it:
Gorgeous trees and blossoms in every season (hello, fall colours!)
Gentle walking paths and tucked-away clearings—perfect for privacy during newborn sessions
Plenty of stroller-friendly areas
🌾 Guelph Lake Conservation Area
If your family feels most at home near the water, this location offers natural beauty without needing to travel far. The calm lake and open skies make for beautiful wide-angled family portraits or beautiful maternity portraits.
Why I love it:
Wide sandy spots and grassy fields for barefoot babies and curious toddlers
Peaceful and open—perfect for families who want a nature-based session
Gorgeous sunsets over the lake!
Note: There’s a small fee to enter, but it’s well worth it for the views.
🧱 Goldie Mill Ruins
Want something a little more unique? Goldie Mill Ruins blends historic stonework with lush greenery, giving your family photos an earthy, textured backdrop you won’t find anywhere else.
Why I love it:
Rustic, romantic vibes that work so beautifully for maternity and family sessions
Close to downtown, but still feels tucked away
Beautiful vines and light-filled nooks for storytelling-style images
🌊 Speed River Trail
This peaceful riverside path winds through the heart of Guelph and offers a wonderful mix of nature and walkability. If you’re after a quiet, calming backdrop for your photos—especially with little ones—this is a lovely choice.
Why I love it:
Tree-lined trails with dappled light—perfect for stroller walks and gentle posing
Perfect for letting the kids get their feet wet and skipping rocks!
Especially beautiful in early fall or early morning light
I can't wait to capture your family photos at one of these locations!
