Let me guess.... You've just recently came home from the hospital. You're most likely wearing your own diaper and covered in leaking milk and a messy bun on the top of your head. It's okay, it's what you're meant to look like when you bring home a fresh newborn!
But now you're stressing because you somehow have to pull yourself together for the newborn photos you scheduled a few months prior when you were feeling your best!
Take a deep breath :) Here are some of my go to tips to help keep it simple, easy and stress free!
To prepare for a newborn photo session in Guelph, focus on these key steps:
Dress your baby in loose-fitting, simple outfits like a light neutral-coloured onesie that lets their feet peek out. Avoid tight waistbands or sleeves to prevent red marks on their skin.
Have parent 2 or grandparent/friend step in so you can take an hour to get yourself ready! Grab a hot cup of joe, pull out the makeup and hair tools.
Keep your baby awake for about an hour before the session to help them fall asleep during the shoot, which is often preferred for newborn photos.
Give your baby a sponge bath about an hour before the session to keep them clean and slightly tire them out so they are more likely to sleep.
Feed your baby 20-30 minutes before the session to ensure they are content and less likely to cry during the shoot. Avoid a full meal 1-2 hours before to prevent discomfort.
Bring extras like a bottle, pacifier, blankets, or special props you want included in the photos.
Parents should wear simple, neutral colours and avoid bright or bold patterns.
Additionally, for lifestyle newborn shoots at home, make sure mom is relaxed and has extra time to feed and prepare baby, as baby’s mood often reflects mom’s.
